Dr. Fernando Giovanella Clinic, innovation and teaching.

I work at the point where they meet.

What brought you here?

Patients travel to Blumenau, in southern Brazil, for this surgery. The surgeon who evaluates your case is the one who operates: always me.

Not sure where your case fits?

Send a message in English. The clinic will tell you where to start.

The innovation.

What I learn at the chair becomes a paper, a method and a patent. Then it returns, improved, to the next case.

SkinGuide resin surgical guide over the patient's face, and the sequence of models from the digital planning

SkinGuide®: the surgery happens twice.

The first time is a rehearsal on the screen. The second is in the mouth, with a guide that carries the plan to the patient. The clinic uses it, the teaching passes it on, the research refines it.

I also do R&D consulting for the industry ↗. And there is work I can't talk about yet: when I can, it shows up here first.

Who operates here

Before the technique, the person.

I didn't start with the technique. I started with a question: what does someone need to live with their own face again?

The answer took me from the outside in. From the face to the smile, from the smile to the prosthesis, from the prosthesis to the bone, from the bone to the paper, from the paper to the patent.

What drives me comes before any case: to discover, create and share knowledge in a way that is truthful, didactic and authentic.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Dr. Fernando Giovanella?

I am an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with a master's degree in Implant Dentistry, and my clinic is in Blumenau, southern Brazil. I have worked with surgery and implants for over 20 years, wrote the book ZIGOMA 2.0 and created the SkinGuide method. I split my time between the clinic, teaching dentists and research.

What is a zygomatic implant?

It is a longer implant anchored in the zygomatic bone, the cheekbone. It is an alternative for people who have lost a lot of bone in the upper jaw and were told they would need a bone graft. Whether it is indicated depends on an evaluation and on each patient's CT scan. Understand the treatment →

Which treatments does Dr. Fernando perform?

Full-mouth implants (fixed teeth without bone grafting, with zygomatic implants and All-on-4), single-tooth implants with guided surgery, wisdom teeth and impacted teeth surgery, and other oral surgery.

What is the SkinGuide method?

It is the method I developed to rehearse zygomatic implant surgery before it happens. The digital planning becomes a physical resin guide that carries the plan to the patient on the day of surgery.

Where is the clinic and how do I book an evaluation?

The clinic is at Rua Armando Odebrecht, 70, rooms 902 and 903, Garcia, Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil. First contact is through the clinic's WhatsApp, +55 47 99782-2642. I am the one who evaluates your case.

Does Dr. Fernando treat patients from other countries?

Yes. Patients come from other Brazilian states and from abroad. There is a page in English for international patients →

Does Dr. Fernando teach courses for dentists?

Yes. There is a live-patient zygomatic implant course in Rio de Janeiro with Expert Dental Solutions, online courses on zygomatic implants and local anesthesia, mentoring at my clinic, and a case planning service with the SkinGuide Zygoma guide. See courses →
